Chiropractors hold canned
goods drive
By Pat Andrews, Heritage Newspapers
The Downriver community has remembered Ryan Sergent in many
ways.
When the 16-year-old Flat Rock High School athlete died of a
rare heart disease in October 1997, his family and friends vowed to continue his
charitable work.
"Ryan’s Friends," an organization established in
November 1997 to help support community shelters, will be the recipient of
proceeds from a daylong event Oct. 5.
"An Apple for Ryan" — a takeoff on "Doctors
With A Heart" — is taking place from 9 a.m. to noon at 11 chiropractic
offices, including one founded by his late father, Dr. Darrel Sergent.
In exchange for a $10 donation of non-perishable food items,
the office staffs will offer complimentary exams, X-rays and adjustments.
Appointments are necessary.
The participating offices by city include: Belcher
Chiropractic Center, 1-313-291-6710 and Hofmann Chiropractic Clinic,
1-313-382-1333, Allen Park; Odette Chiropractic Family Health Center,
1-734-479-5130, Brownstown; Sergent Chiropractic, 1-734-782-0717 and Liedel
Chiropractic Clinic, 1-734-783-5040, Flat Rock; Kardos Chiropractic,
1-313-382-1333, Lincoln Park; Cousineau Chiropractic Life, 1-734-479-1880 and
Donathon Chiropractic Center, 1-734-283-3200, Riverview; and Porter Chiropractic
Center, 1-734-671-1650, Rockwood.
Also participating are Russell Chiropractic Health,
1-734-284-9800, Southgate; and Ettinger Chiropractic Clinic, 1-734-671-1400,
Trenton.
"Ryan’s Friends" will distribute the food items
to surrounding area soup kitchens.
