SHARON TOWNSHIP: Former Manchester village president David Little dies in hospital following crash on M-52
Former Manchester village president David Little died after a traffic accident involving a semi truck Wednesday morning on M-52 in Sharon Township.
He was airlifted to the University of Michigan hospital system for surgery after the accident.
Little, 73, was a Manchester resident and also served on the Board of Directors for University Bank in Ann Arbor.
At about 8:34 a.m. Wednesday the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to respond to an accident at M-52 and Bethel Church Road.
The investigation determined the driver of a semi truck traveling southbound lost control when a vehicle in front of him was turning, according to the sheriff's office.
The semi truck slid into oncoming traffic, striking a northbound vehicle driven by Little.
After the Manchester Fire Department extracted him from his pinned car, a Survival Flight chopper standing by transported him to the University of Michigan Hospital.
The driver of the semi truck is a 43-year-old Jonesville resident. His truck, a milk truck with Wadsworth Trucking from Petersburg, was carrying approximately 8,000 pounds in the trailer.
The semi truck also struck a large southbound truck stopped in the roadway. The driver of this vehicle, a 56-year-old Oak Park resident, suffered minor injuries.
At this time it looks like icy roads and improper driving caused this accident, according to the sheriff's office. Continued...
