YPSILANTI: Ypsilanti Crafters Market finds new home at Victory Academy
A group of crafters who used to sell their goods at the Ypsilanti Farmers Market are now making their mark on the local craft scene.
The group, composed of Susan Carpenter, her daughter Amy Carpenter, and friends Nan and Lorna Butts combined to form the Ypsilanti Crafters Market. Due to their success, the group is now moving the market to the gymnasium at Victory Academy at 1715 E. Forest Ave.
The space holds between 30 and 35 vendors, more than double what it did before.
Vendors will sell an array of merchandise ranging from baked goods to puzzle art to tutus. The academy will also sell refreshments at the events as it is working to earn money to start a school band.
After it was formed, the group began selling goods at the plaza in Depot Town but decided to move because the location was too windy. Its most recent location was in the Corner Brewery but the market outgrew the space.
"We moved to a bigger location because we were getting more vendors," she said.
The group pays $150 a month to rent the space.
The market will be held from 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov.26, Dec. 10 and 17 and begin again in April.
To become a vendor, contact Susan Carpenter at 481-0092 or at ypsicrafters@yahoo.com. Vendors are charged $15 per show for a 10 by 10 space.
